Originally established as an independent festival for performing arts in Hamburg, the festival entered its 10th year under a new name: Fringify – Independent Arts Festival Hamburg. This name change marks a new chapter in the festival’s development and emphasizes its vision of celebrating the diversity and vibrancy of Hamburg’s independent arts scene. The English term “fringe” refers to outer areas or boundaries. Originally, the term was used to describe independent, experimental, and alternative art and theater productions that often take place outside the mainstream. Fringify follows this tradition by presenting the work of artists and groups from Hamburg’s independent scene and beyond. The first edition of Fringify invited audiences to experience contemporary movements, aesthetic innovations, and sociopolitical discourses through a diverse, cross-disciplinary program.
