“Voices” is a chorally polyphonic work that splits the monolithic idea of national anthems into infinity, taking a look at it from a cosmic perspective. With 20 Hamburg-based (amateur) singers, alternative and personal anthems are collectively designed with diverse voices. Singing a cappella, speaking, and rapping simultaneously and overlapping, they create a multi-layered sonic landscape. The choir is arranged like a labyrinth, allowing the audience to move freely through it. The songs performed are suggested by the singers themselves and curated into a composition by Daniel Dominguez Teruel. “Voices” is part of the performance series “How to Listen to Monuments and What to Listen to when Everything is Meeting,” in which Daniel Dominguez Teruel explores questions of (national) belonging, division and community through musical and performative means.
