“OH EUROPA!” The cry for the missing princess from ancient mythology still echoes today: The daughter of King Agenor and Queen Telephassa was abducted; they sent their other children to search for her, but none returned to them. The German-Italian duo TÒ SU (Martina Mahlknecht & Martin Prinoth) interprets the founding myth of the European continent as a parable for the current realities of forced migration: Even those seeking Europe today put their lives at risk and must reckon with the possibility of never seeing their families again. In this multimedia documentary piece, five people with refugee backgrounds use virtual reality to reconstruct their dangerous attempts to cross Europe’s external borders and share their vision of Europe.
Europa is a figure from an ancient story.
She is the daughter of King Agenor and Queen Telephassa.
Europa is taken away.
Her parents are very sad.

They send their children out
to search for Europa.
But the children do not return.

This is a founding myth.
A myth explains
how something came to be.
This one is about Europa.

The artist duo Martina Mahlknecht
and Martin Prinoth are called TÒ SU.
They say: The story is relevant today.

Today, people are fleeing to Europe.
They are afraid or in danger.
Many lose their families and homes.
In the theater, five people tell their stories.

They use virtual reality.
This allows you to experience many things very realistically.

The play shows:
Fleeing is difficult and dangerous.
Many still hope for a better life.
