Is it possible to perform a truly magical act in an old industrial building? ÉSKATON explores this question using various theatrical devices and performative strategies, drawing inspiration from a 1922 film of the same name that combines witch hunts with early psychological interpretations.

At the center is a figure, a marginal figure whose behavior oscillates between despair, tenderness, and resistance. Through her actions, mythologies and narratives of witchcraft enter into dialogue with contemporary stage art. In the process, demonized knowledge and practices are invoked, the aesthetic power of the monstrous is emphasized, and the vulnerability of dissident bodies is made visible—with the aim of questioning the historical structure of the theater as a place and a practice.
Is it possible to create something magical in an old industrial building?
Can an old place become something special?

The theater group is called “ÉSKATON.”

The play asks many questions.
The most important question is:
Can art be magical?

The artists use light, sound, and music.
They experiment with new forms of theater.

The play references an old film from 1922.
The film is about witches.
And about how people used to think of them.
The focus is on one person.
This person is often on the margins of society.
They have many feelings.

Sometimes she is sad.
Sometimes she is loving.
Sometimes they fight back.

This shows resistance.
And the many different sides of a person.

Old stories of witches meet new art.
This creates connections between the past and the present.

The play also explores knowledge
that was once considered dangerous.

It makes it clear:
Being different can put you in danger.

The play asks:
What is theater for?
And who does it exclude?
