“common.start” is a platform for exchange, innovative approaches, and interdisciplinary practice in the independent arts scene, specifically aimed at emerging artists. In a temporary art camp, these artists—drawing from diverse geographical and aesthetic contexts—come together in a shared working environment to test experimental methods and refine their artistic questions. The focus is on a process-oriented practice aimed at negotiation, shift, and openness.

Over the course of four days, small-scale works are created by interdisciplinary teams from Basel, Berlin, and Hamburg. Their presentation as part of the festival is not intended as a conclusion, but rather as a situational visualization of an ongoing process.

Free admission. Please book a free ticket via the button below.
“common.start” is a format.
It’s about exchange and new ideas.
It’s aimed at young artists.
From the independent scene.

The artists meet
at an art camp.
They come from different places.
For example, from Basel, Berlin, and Hamburg.

They work together.
And try out new approaches.
They ask questions
and seek answers.

The process is what matters.
That means: the journey is important.
It’s about exchange,
change, and openness.

They rehearse together for four days.
Works are created in small teams.
These are shown at the festival.
But they aren’t finished.

The presentation is just a moment.
The work may continue afterward.
