Essay on Light is an experimental puppet theater piece that explores light as a central artistic medium. Inspired by the format of the audiovisual essay, the Czech Musaši Entertainment Company combines theatrical, visual, and discursive elements into a unique stage form.

Starting with a dialogic scene between two personified spotlights reflecting on their own role in the theater, the work unfolds in associative sequences of images and text. These range from the cultural-historical significance of fire as the earliest source of light, through technical aspects—such as incandescent filaments as the material basis of theatrical lighting—to speculative future scenarios in which light becomes part of digital and posthuman systems.
