The allocation of grants in the independent performing arts remains controversial: Who is on the juries, and who decides their members? Despite a commitment to diversity, procedures often lack transparency, marginalized voices remain underrepresented, and power structures persist. Calls for participatory selection and regular renewal of jury members are growing.
In this event, government officials, artists, and (former) jury members will discuss procedures in Hamburg and Berlin. Together, we will examine power structures, develop approaches for greater fairness, and explore how theater professionals can be more fully involved.
Come join us, bring your questions and personal experiences—we’ll create space for discussion and ideas about a process that significantly shapes the work and future of the independent arts scene.
